Beyond Division: Building Belonging and Repair in Our Communities

A Fireside Conversation with Felicia Murrell Author of And: The Restorative Power of Love in an Either/Or World Visiting from the United States

Following CACD’s recent Black History Month celebration, Echoes of Greatness, community members shared powerful reflections through our Wall of Futures—expressing hopes for unity, dignity, mentorship, opportunity for youth, and communities where every individual feels seen, valued, and respected.

From those voices emerged a central question:

How do we move from hope… to action?

This special gathering is a direct continuation of that moment.

CACD invites community leaders, educators, faith partners, youth advocates, and engaged citizens to an intimate fireside conversation exploring how we build stronger, more connected communities in a time of division.

Through a guided and reflective dialogue, we will explore:

  • What it truly means to create belonging—beyond inclusion, toward spaces where people feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued
  • The work of repair required to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships
  • The role of leadership, community, and shared responsibility in shaping more compassionate and resilient societies

We are honoured to welcome Felicia Murrell, author of And: The Restorative Power of Love, whose work challenges us to move beyond an “either/or” way of thinking toward a more human and restorative “both/and” approach—one that makes space for understanding, connection, and healing.

This is not a formal panel or lecture, but a thoughtful and community-centred conversation, designed to engage both heart and mind, and to move us from reflection to responsibility.

Rooted in the voices captured on the Wall of Futures, this gathering represents a natural and intentional next step—transforming shared vision into meaningful dialogue and action.
